About Our Process
At Aris Floors the process of sanding wooden floors is taken very seriously.
Before the floor is sanded minor repairs and restoration such as fixing down floor boards, filling minor holes and cracked boards are dealt with.
A series of harsh abrasives are used in order to remove floor finishes, oil, stain, wax, lacquer, paint and bitumen - working to a finer abrasive to create a smooth finish.
This process is carefully exercised with precision in order not to damage the wood.
Your choice of finish will then be applied.

Finishes Water-Based Finish
Polyurethane Finish
Water Based finish is a non-toxic, high performance, extremely hard-wearing and is the product of choice for floors that require a high quality finish, providing excellent resistance to scuffs and scratches..
It is important to use non toxic products that quickly dry, not releasing toxic chemicals, you can safely stay at home whilst your floors are sanded and polished. Water based flooring products deliver great looking, durable floors that are environmentally friendly and easy to maintain. Waterborne finishes are also non-yellowing so will not change colour over time.
Water base floor finish has a lighter appearance and dries faster so most projects can be completed in two days!
This coating type provides the highest durability and film build of all coating types as well as the highest gloss levels for the gloss options. Polyurethanes are typically resistant to water exposure, high humidity, temperature extremes, and fungus or mildew, which makes them the perfect finish for timber floors.
However, there is a strong solvent smell on application and they are also of highest toxicity until the coating has cured.
Toxic chemicals are dangerous. They can lead to headaches, nauseousness, vomiting and in some cases, death. Though they are banned in the UK-USA-EUROPE

Oil-Based Finish
Oil based finishes are less expensive, feel smoother to the touch and tend to have a richer look than water based urethanes.Over time the finish will amber, leaving a warm natural look. They can be very slow curing in cold weather, darken significantly with age, some types can also yellow in the dark or when covered. On the downside, oil-based finishes are more toxic, containing higher VOC's (Volatile Organic Compounds). They're also stronger smelling which usually precludes staying in the house while the coating is taking place. Once dry, the odour from the solvent may still be discernable for several days but shouldn't' cause any discomfort to the residents unless they are sensitive to smells or have acute allergies. The finish is also less durable than water based finish and takes longer to dry.

Staining BACK
Staining your sanded floor will give your room a whole new look and is particularly effective if you are looking for a rich wood effect when you have pine floorboards.
There is a wide range of stains to choose from helping you create the look you desire for your home. Colours range from light oak through to rich mahogany.
We can also achieve a liming affect where the bare timber is stained with a light pigment (e.g. white) before washing off leaving in the grain.

Cork is unique in so many ways: it is light, compressible and elastic, rot-resistant, fire-resistant (in its natural state), impermeable and soft. It is a completely natural material which cannot be emulated by any synthetic material.
Cork, as a natural product, warms and enriches any interior. With over 40 million natural cushion cells per cubic centimeter, cork is a natural sound and thermal insulator. Cork floors are beautifully quiet and comfortable underfoot, warm and pleasant to the touch.
Cork floors do not absorb dust and are resistant to bacteria and fungus. They do not cause allergies nor pose a risk to asthma sufferers.
Cork needs to be laid on an even floor so Masonite sheeting may be required to make the floor perfectly level.
